US job losses hit 26-year high

WASHINGTON, Nov 8 — The US jobless rate unexpectedly jumped to 10.2 per cent last month, a 26-1/2-year high, adding to pressure on the Obama administration to do more to tackle unemployment even as signs of recovery mount.

GENEVA, Nov 8 — Censorship of the Internet is open to challenge at the World Trade Organisation as it can restrict trade in services delivered online, a study says.
A censorship case at the WTO could raise sovereignty issues, given the clear right of member states to restrict trade on moral grounds — for example, by blocking access to child pornography websites.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 8 — Silicon Valley may have discovered the perfect business: charging real money for products that do not exist.
These so-called virtual goods, like a US$1 (RM3.40) illustration of a Champagne bottle on Facebook or the US$2.50 Halloween costume in the online game Sorority Life, are no more than a collection of pixels on a Web page.
But it is quickly becoming commonplace for people to spend a few dollars on them to get ahead in an online game or to give a friend a gift on a social network.

Windfall is seen as bank bonuses are paid in stock

NEW YORK, Nov 8 — Even as Washington tries to rein in Wall Street pay, bankers are likely to make unusually large gains on the stock grants and options they received after shares in their companies fell sharply during the financial meltdown.

Khazanah to bring kiddie characters to Nusajaya theme park

JOHOR BARU, Nov 7 – Popular kiddie characters Barney, Thomas and Friends, Bob the Builder and Hello Kitty will be among attractions at the RM350 million, four-storey indoor theme park slated to be opened to the public at the end of 2012.
The park, to be housed at Puteri Harbour in Nusajaya, will boast a floor area of 60,000 square feet and another 100,000 square feet of retail space.
